PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Portland Trail Blazers will look to halt a two-game slide when they host the struggling Los Angeles Clippers at Moda Center on Friday night in a post-Christmas NBA matchup. The Trail Blazers (12-18) return home after a 1-2 road trip, most recently falling 110-106 to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. They will rely on forward Deni Avdija, who has been a consistent triple-double threat. Over his last 10 games, Avdija is averaging 24.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists, including a 35-point, five-rebound, five-assist performance in an overtime win over Sacramento on Dec. 18. The Clippers (8-21) arrive with the worst record in the Western Conference but are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 128-108 home victory over Houston on Tuesday. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 41 points, eight rebounds and five assists, continuing an impressive individual stretch. In his last five games, the star forward is averaging 30.2 points and 7.4 rebounds. Despite their poor overall record, the Clippers have shown recent flashes, winning two of their last three, including a 103-88 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 20. They also won the season’s first meeting with Portland, 114-107, on Oct. 26. Portland’s recent form has been uneven, mixing impressive wins with lopsided losses. Their defense will be tested by a Clippers offense that features Leonard and James Harden, who scored 29 points against Houston. The game pits two teams seeking consistency. For Portland, a victory would steady the ship before a difficult upcoming stretch that includes games against Boston and Dallas. For the Clippers, building on their recent win could provide a spark for a roster that has underperformed through the season’s first two months. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Moda Center.
