Cavaliers, Thunder Set for Showdown of Top NBA Contenders OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — Two of the NBA’s hottest teams will collide Sunday when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center. The Thunder (42-14), boasting the league’s second-best record, host the Cavaliers (36-21), who enter on a seven-game winning streak. The matchup features a compelling duel at center between Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen and Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren. Allen has been dominant, averaging a double-double during Cleveland’s streak. He is coming off a 26-point, 14-rebound performance in a 118-113 road win over Charlotte on Friday. Donovan Mitchell added 32 points and James Harden had 18 points and eight assists in that victory. Holmgren anchors the Thunder’s defense and is averaging a double-double for the season. He recorded 16 points and 13 rebounds in Oklahoma City’s most recent outing, a 110-93 home loss to Milwaukee on Feb. 12. The Thunder had won three straight prior to that defeat. Oklahoma City won the season’s first meeting decisively, 136-104, in Cleveland on Jan. 19. The Cavaliers’ surge has solidified their hold on the Eastern Conference’s seed. Their current win streak includes impressive road victories at Denver, Sacramento and against the L.A. Clippers. The Thunder, leaders of the Western Conference, have been nearly unbeatable at home with a 24-4 record at Paycom Center this season. Their elite defense, ranked top-three in efficiency, will be tested by Cleveland’s high-powered offense, which has averaged over 124 points per game during its streak. Sunday’s contest is the final game for both teams before the All-Star break. Following the hiatus, Cleveland hosts New York on Feb. 24, while Oklahoma City begins a road trip at Toronto on the same date. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
