Tigers Seek Road Upset Against LSU BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) â The Missouri Tigers face a steep challenge Sunday when they visit the sixth-ranked LSU Tigers in a Southeastern Conference womenâs basketball matchup at the Maravich Assembly Center. LSU (22-4, 10-3 SEC), riding high in the national rankings, looks to protect its home court and solidify its postseason seeding. Missouri (16-12, 7-6) aims to bolster its own tournament rĂ©sumĂ© with a signature road victory against one of the nationâs elite programs. The contest features a compelling backcourt duel between two of the leagueâs top scorers. Missouriâs Grace Slaughter enters as one of the SECâs most potent offensive threats, averaging 22.3 points over her last six games. She poured in 19 points in a loss to Auburn on Thursday and has scored 20 or more in four of her last six outings. Her scoring prowess will be vital for a Missouri team that has lost three straight. She will be matched by LSUâs dynamic guard MiLaysia Fulwiley, who is coming off a 26-point performance in a win at Mississippi. Fulwileyâs explosive scoring ability and defensive activity make her a constant threat. Flauâjae Johnson, who added 18 points against the Rebels, provides another versatile weapon for a deep LSU squad. The teams are heading in opposite directions entering the final stretch of the regular season. LSU has won eight of its last nine, with its only loss in that span coming against top-ranked South Carolina. Missouri has struggled recently, with its Thursday loss to Auburn marking a third consecutive defeat following a three-game winning streak in late January. LSU won the seasonâs first meeting decisively, an 89-60 victory in Columbia on Jan. 26. In that game, Fulwiley scored 15 points in just 18 minutes. For Missouri to reverse that result, it must find consistent offense beyond Slaughter and improve a defense that has allowed an average of 84.6 points during its three-game skid. Containing LSUâs transition game and multifaceted attack, which leads the SEC in scoring, will be paramount. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CST tip-off on Sunday, Feb. 22. LSU will then host Tennessee on Thursday, while Missouri travels to face South Carolina.
