HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Monmouth team visits a struggling Hampton squad in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Sunday at the Convocation Center. The Monmouth Hawks (17-8) enter with momentum, having won three of their last four games, including a 69-57 victory over College of Charleston on Feb. 15. The Hampton Pirates (9-15) look to halt a four-game losing streak, most recently a 69-44 home loss to Towson on Feb. 13. Monmouth’s success has been fueled by forward Divine Dibula, who is coming off a dominant stretch. She averaged 18.3 points and 7.0 rebounds over her last three games, including a 24-point, 15-rebound performance in a double-overtime win at Drexel on Feb. 8. In the win over Charleston, she posted 19 points and six rebounds. Hampton will counter with guard Kayla Lezama, its leading offensive threat. She has scored in double figures in five of her last six outings, averaging 14.3 points per game in that span. She scored 17 points in each of her last two games against Towson and Hofstra. The Hawks have shown resilience on the road recently, securing tight wins at Drexel and Hofstra earlier this month. Their defense held four of their last seven opponents under 60 points. Hampton, conversely, has faced offensive challenges during its skid, failing to score more than 59 points in any of the four losses and suffering defeats by an average margin of 23.5 points. This game represents a critical late-season contest for both teams as they position themselves for their upcoming conference tournaments.
