Mississippi State looks to upset Texas in Austin AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Longhorns, riding high as one of the nation’s top teams, will host the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs in a Southeastern Conference women’s basketball showdown Sunday at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas (25-3, 13-2 SEC) enters with dominant form, having won 10 of its last 11 games. The Longhorns are coming off a 93-62 rout of Arkansas on Thursday, where Madison Booker scored 21 points and Kyla Oldacre added 13. Oldacre, a key post presence, has averaged 9.1 points over her last seven contests. Mississippi State (18-9, 8-7) seeks to rebound from a 71-56 home loss to Florida on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs’ success often hinges on forward Madison Francis, who scored 20 points in that defeat. Francis has been a consistent force, averaging 15.3 points over her last seven games, including a 17-point, 9-rebound effort in a loss to Missouri on Feb. 1. The matchup pits Texas’s stifling defense and balanced scoring against a Mississippi State team reliant on Francis’s interior production. The Longhorns won the earlier meeting this season, 80-68, in Starkville on Jan. 4. Texas holds a commanding home-court advantage, having lost only once in Austin this season. Mississippi State, however, has proven capable on the road with SEC wins at Arkansas and Tennessee in January. Following this game, Texas will host Georgia on Thursday. Mississippi State travels to face Texas A&M on the same night.
