STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to escape the Colonial Athletic Association cellar will meet Sunday when the Hofstra Pride hosts the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in a women’s basketball matchup. The game at Mack Sports Complex pits struggling squads with nearly identical records. UNC Wilmington enters at 6-19 overall, while Hofstra sits at 5-19. The Pride won the season’s first meeting, 54-46, at UNC Wilmington on Jan. 4. The Seahawks are looking to snap a two-game skid, most recently falling 60-55 at Stony Brook on Friday. Hofstra arrives with some momentum after a 60-51 road victory over North Carolina A&T on Feb. 15, its most recent outing. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top performers. UNC Wilmington will lean on guard Kylah Silver, who is coming off a 21-point, four-assist effort in 40 minutes against Stony Brook. Over her last seven games, Silver has averaged 14.1 points, including a 27-point outing at William & Mary on Feb. 1. Hofstra counters with forward Nevaeh Brown, who powered the Pride’s last win with 17 points and eight rebounds against North Carolina A&T. Brown has shown scoring versatility, also posting 17 points in a win over Hampton on Feb. 8. Both teams have faced offensive challenges this season. The Seahawks have been held under 55 points in four of their last five games. The Pride have similarly struggled with consistency, scoring 47 points or fewer in three of their last six contests. Sunday’s game represents a critical opportunity for either team to build confidence and gain ground before the conference tournament. Following this contest, Hofstra will host Elon on Feb. 27, while UNC Wilmington’s next game is at home against William & Mary on March 1. Tipoff is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
